We can follow below steps to make mask in After Effects.
How to make clipping mask using Shape tool or Pen Tool
1. Add a footage into composition as layer
2. Select the footage layer
3. Click Icon to use Shape Tool or Pen Tool
4. Add a Shape or Draw a path to make a shape
5. Then, we can make clipping mask for a layer
How to make clipping mask using Text Layer
1. Add a footage into composition as a layer
2. Add Text to be a new layer that above the footage layer.
3. In footage layer, in track matte, switch to Matte
4. Then, clipping mask in text shape has been done.
How to make mask using PNG transparent background image file
1. Add a footage into composition as a layer
2. Add PNG image to be a new layer that above the footage layer.
3. In footage layer, in track matte, switch to Matte
4. Then, clipping mask using PNG has been done.
