2 ways how to cut video clip in After Effects

Below steps are to show how you can cut clips in After Effects. While After Effects is primarily known for animation and visual effects, it’s still essential to understand how to trim and split your clips effectively. Here are the steps:

– Import your clip by going to File > Import > File or using the shortcut Cmd+I (Mac) or Ctrl+I (Windows).
– Drag the clip to the New Comp icon in the Layer panel or right-click the clip and choose New Comp… to create a new composition.
– Position the current time indicator (Playhead) where we want to cut the video.

1. Trimming Layers:

– To trim the start of the clip, press Alt+[ (Mac) or Option+[ (Windows).
– To trim the end of the clip, press Alt+] (Mac) or Option+] (Windows).

2. Splitting Clips:

– To split the layer, go to Edit > Split Layer (shortcut: Cmd+Shift+D on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+D on Windows).
– Then delete the layer we don’t want in the video.

Alternatively, we can watch below video to show the steps visually, and I hope this helps.
