1. Select an 3D object
2. Switch to Edit Mode using shortcut Tab
3. Switch to face selection using shortcut 3
4. Use Left Mouse Button to click on face for selecting a face

How to select face loop with direction

1. Select an 3D object
2. Switch to Edit Mode using shortcut Tab
3. Switch to face selection using shortcut 3
4. Move cursor to a face and near an edge
5. Alt + LMB click to select the face loop in direction of edge nearby
